Our Mission Statement:
Exceptionalsmiles.org was established to serve as a guide for caregivers and parents of the special needs population in improving oral health and hygiene. This site’s goal is to provide easy tips and videos for better brushing, lists of experienced special needs dentists, and resourceful information regarding common problems found in the disabled population.
Jessica Listwa, DMD
Dr. Jessica Listwa is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist working in several offices in the Greater New York Area. Special needs is a huge passion of her life, both personally and professionally and she is largely inspired everyday by her own sister who has cerebral palsy. She founded this website for the families and caregivers who have loved ones with special needs to help them navigate oral health and hygiene in this special community.
Dr. Jessica Listwa received her Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry at Muhlenberg College and her Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree from University of Pennsylvania. She completed her Pediatric Residency at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine/Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. She is now working in private practice and is on staff at JFK hospital. She is one of the New Jersey Clinical Directors for Special Smiles Special Olympics and is a consultant on the Clinical Affairs: Special Health Care Needs Board for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
Cavan Brunsden, DDS- KidZdent, Old Bridge, NJ
Dr. Brunsden provided many of the videos and was a mentor in developing this website. As the state chairman of the New Jersey Dental Association, he is a strong advocate for children’s healthcare education throughout the state. Dr. Brunsden is dedicated to providing an environment of positive dental health experiences for children – and a lifetime of smiles.
