Oral Manifestations for Individuals with Cerebral Palsy Include:
- Increased risk for cavities
- Increased risk for periodontal disease aka gum disease
- Increased risk of trauma or injury
- Delayed eruption of permanent teeth
- Enamel Hypoplasia: the outer layer of the teeth might appear more opaque than the rest of the teeth
- Erosion: due to gastric reflux, this can lead to sensitivity with hot or cold food/liquids
- Grinding
- Oral Hypersensitivity
- Poor oral hygiene
- Hyperactive gag reflex: this might make brushing and taking x-rays really difficult
